If your home needs new home siding, contacting a siding installation contractor in the spring is the best time to get started.
There are three reasons why that’s the case:
- The weather is milder
- New siding stands up to high winds, rainstorms, and freezing temperatures
- Contractors have more availability
Most siding damage is visible.
Cracks, chips, and loose panels are the most obvious signs that your siding needs to be replaced. Once you’ve got that sort of damage, your home is no longer fully protected from wind, rain, and hail.
There are other, indirect signs you need to replace siding.
Damage isn’t always visual. If your energy bills have gone up recently, that could also show that your siding isn’t operating at its best, and you’re losing insulation.
You’ve decided to replace your siding. Here’s why spring is the best time to do it.
Timing shouldn’t be your only factor: We’re not saying if it’s December 1st, wait all the way until next October to get started on your new siding. You certainly don’t want to wait if there’s any structural damage.
But if you do have any flexibility and it works with your schedule, replacing siding in the spring is best. Here’s why.
#1: The temperature is on your side.
Siding installation is most effective when the weather is neither too hot nor too cold.
Homeowners have lots of options for siding materials. Let’s say, through, you’ve currently got old and worn vinyl siding. Be particularly wary. In the summer, high heat causes vinyl to expand, making it harder to fit panels properly. In winter, vinyl and other materials like fiber cement can turn brittle.
Mild weather is better for the caulking process.
If it’s too hot (above 90 degrees), the caulk will dry before it’s properly bonded. It will also cure unevenly and be more likely to split. These aren’t just cosmetic issues; you need caulking to adequately seal the gaps in your siding.
#2: You’ll be ready before winter hits.
If you live in North Texas as we do, you know how devastating our windstorms can be, which tend to occur between February and August. You’ll want to get new siding in place before then. High-quality siding that’s been properly installed will protect your home during a wind or hail storm.
Replace in the spring to save on your winter and summer energy bills.
When it’s hot, you want to keep your cold air inside, and vice versa in the cold months.
Small gaps that form in old or damaged siding cause air to escape, leading to higher energy bills.
#3: Contractors have better availability.
We can say from experience that May through September are the busiest times of the year for exterior construction projects.
That doesn’t mean we won’t do quality work on your next siding job if it’s during a hectic month.
It does mean, though, that starting work with a siding installation contractor in spring is going to lead to faster project timelines. And generally, there’s more money in homeowners’ pockets during the spring months, so you may be able to look at even higher-quality materials than you anticipated.
